HELP!

I'm here seeking the technical wisdom of my Fl*st, I've been dodging the windows 10 upgrade for months now. And now it looks like my time is up, I went to move it again and it's refusing to budge! so I have until midnight tonight to decide whether to upgrade or not.

I've asked around in the office and so far the opinion is don't touch windows 10 with a barge pole. I'm hearing about buggered up softwear and slowed down lap tops, so what I want to know from my dear Fl*st is as a technophobe should I take the approach if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Or should I be brave and update.

I should mention that I don't actually use my 8.1 desktop. I actually use the Acer desktop instead. so ladies can you help this poor technophobe out? As I've said I'm running out of time I must make a decision.

As much as I prefer Windows 7, Windows 10 isn't that bad... it's better than 8. Everything I use runs fine on it.

I'm not sure if the laptop being slow is a Windows 10 thing, a "we have the suckiest DSL ever (a hazard of rural living)" thing or if I just have a crappy laptop, it was a gift and it came with 8 and I was happy to go to 10...

Good luck with whatever you do... my mom keeps putting it off too and soon he won't have a choice.

Brave the update honey! You know how much I disliked having mine updated and actually, it's pretty good! It moves all your bookmarks and whatnot, and keeps your files so nothing gets deleted. It will take an age though so leave the laptop somehwere that a certain old witch can't get her hands on it and screw up the update.

It's actually faster on my p.c but I don't know about laptop, not updated that yet or at least I haven't turned it on since my p/c updated O.o

I've found a way to delay the update so I can give myself a little more time. I keep seeing horror stories about the update, so I'm still a little scared of what it could do to my lap tap and my privacy.

I've been on Windows 10 for months. Never had a problem with it! Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's not that different really.

Google the make and model of your PC and Windows 10 update and go by that. My wife's Asus tablet thing went fine (and win8 was horrible - with 10 she now actually uses it), but Dell say that Windows 10 is not supported on my desktop (so I'm not bothering)

Thanks for that tip, I've just checked which Acer lap tops will be supported and it looks like the E5-571-35WU isn't mentioned. There are others in the series mentioned but not this specific one.

I really hate windows 10 but its whats on my laptop which is new I perfer windows 8 or 8.1 I had it downloaded to the old laptop it did it all on its own with the windows update and it messed me up big time, finally got it back to 8.1 and then it crashed and burned beyond repair so had to get a new one and windows 10 was on it. Not happy wiht it at all.

My laptop is brand new, its a 2016. I dont' know about the older ones, sorry can't help you there, I have heard good things, but honestly more negative then good. Missy

I haven't upgraded yet, But Barry has, and he wasn't very impressed, although he says it's stabilised. He had problems at first, it slowed his laptop down to the point that he tried to uninstall it, but it could be because his laptop's quite old.

So is mine, so I'm dreading updating, and I know I've got to cave in soon.

I've got a mind not to bother updating on this laptop. It's five years old, and I'll probably end up replacing it in a year/18 months. I'll have Windows 10 on the new machine!

I've got windows 7 and am sticking with it. I also know people who've switched to 10 and hate it because it slows their computer down. Also I've heard that windows media player isn't on 10, but my biggest concern is that I don't trust Microsoft - what's in it for them to get everyone on the new system? If there wasn't a way for them to somehow make money off it, they wouldn't be just giving it away.

The way I'm felling at the moment I just want to duck out of the way of the upgrade and wait until I have to buy a new lap top. There's something a little off putting with the way people are being forced into upgrading.

I agree. I don't like the way it's being forced on us with those annoying pop up reminder boxes embedded as "important" updates that is just sent in with the regular updates. (If you want to get rid of the pop up reminder, just look in your downloaded updates for KB3035583 and delete it - won't harm your computer at all and voila! no more pop up :) ).
I figure that whenever I get a new laptop I'll get 10 anyway, but in the meantime am good with what I've got.
