A Pox Upon Sky!

Friends, Romans, Fl*sters!  I am distraught, the thing I have feared happening has just come to pass.  Sky Living has just announced it has dropped Supernatural, and now there will be no legal way to watch season 9 here in the UK. But sadly I’m not surprised, considering the way they have treated the show for the last couple of years.

Now I’m thinking what about if I could no longer get my hands on the show every week? Well it would be bloody messy I’ll tell you that.  But more importantly now, what does that mean for DVD distribution rights over here?

Take White Collar for example, Alibi dropped the show and now you can’t get hold of it on region 2.  So you have to buy a multi regional DVD player, and import the series from one of the other regions.  Will Supernatural go the same way I ask myself?

What about the conventions?  Will they carry on in the UK? Are we doomed never to see the boys over here again? Not all of us can afford to travel to foreign fields to see them, although I’m not really using that one kidney *G*

Friends I ask you, do we let our show slip away from us?  Will we stand by and whimper softly, at the loss of those bow legs, and floppy hair?

Or will we stand and fight, go to the likes of Netflix and Amazon and beg them to stream our show. Offer them our hard earned cash, and only slightly sullied souls if only they would give us back our boys.

We should band together and show Sky the SPN Family is not lightly cast aside and treated with contempt. In fact this announcement was made worse, by seeing Sky 1 has just brought Star Crossed off The CW.  From what I’ve heard about it, it’s a steaming pile of drivel, and they think they’ve got a quality show because it has teenagers from earth and ooh look outer space making goo-goo eyes at one another.

Come on fan girls, band together, scream to the heavens, and rage against the dying of the light. Send Sky messages, and I mean eloquent worded missives telling them they are prats.

We are fandom, hear us roar!

Fuck, I'm totally there. I'm already pissed about them not showing Teen Wolf 3. Fucking assholes!

I don't think we'll lose the DVDs though...I should think the franchise makes a shitload of money from that...even if the viewing numbers on living aren't anything like the US figures...

Better not anyway...

Don't get me started about Teen Wolf!

I've got everything crossed we will still be able to get hold of the DVDs without trouble, hell we might have to order them from Germany like Leverage!

But I'm so pissed it's unbelievable.

I know, right? I was so looking forward to Teen Wolf.

As long as I can get them from somewhere...lol...

SPN was often Living's highest rated show averaging around 300,000 to 400,000 viewers. When you consider it only gets about 2 million viewers in the US, a country so much bigger than the UK, percentage of viewers to population, the ratings are probably higher here than they are in the US!

Sky are idjits.

I can't see the DVD's going because they are a big seller. To be honest, I used to find the coverage on Living TV was so awful, I couldn't be bothered to wade through half an hour of adverts and trailers for the sort of train-wreck TV I wouldn't watch if you paid me, so I never bothered with it; I just download and then wait for the DVDs.

Let's hope it gets picked up by another channel!

I've got everything crossed we can still get the DVDs. I agree that Living's treatment of the show was terrible, and here's to hoping someone picks the show up.

I am so pissed off, seriously.

At least I'll be saving seventy odd quid a month from now on.

Ugh!

I'm so tempted to say balls to you Sky, only Steve is addicted to the Sport. I'll have to see what I can do about swapping everything.

Don't get me started.

See there's always a silver lining, but still it is taking the piss.

[identity profile] j-r-hartley.livejournal.com 2014-03-19 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It may get picked up by another channel - Watch, SyFy UK, E4 being the most likely, they have some big shows on :)

[identity profile] sasha-dragon.livejournal.com 2014-03-20 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
One can only hope, but if not there is always the DVDs.

[identity profile] irismay42.livejournal.com 2014-03-19 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't it be funny if they bought the SPN spinoff because they thought it might better fit their 'demographic'? They've treated SPN shockingly badly the last couple of seasons. Especially when you consider it was often their highest rated show. They could at least have decided to drop it a bit earlier so someone might have picked it up and shown season 9 sooner! Be interesting what Jared makes of it at Asylum!

I wondered about the DVDs too, but it think you can buy other shows that haven't aired over here (e.g. Breaking Bad).

I didn't realise till today that Living also dropped Teen Wolf. After they booted SPN out of its timeslot to make way for it. I believe it was also Living that dropped Chuck. They're a**holes.

I just hope someone else buys it. Maybe we should bombard Watch or SyFy with emails!

Yes, so many yesses!

[identity profile] irismay42.livejournal.com 2014-03-20 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
There's an outside chance SyFy might buy it because they show The Originals, which is also on The CW...

I hope someone else buys it, and I may have sent a few e mails tonight *whistles*

Good on you hun, I'm composing a 'letter' to Sky and it's going in open forum on here!

[identity profile] jj1564.livejournal.com 2014-03-19 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
This is beyond annoying & if it wasn't for Game of Thrones I'd tell Sky to shove their subscription up their jacksys. Amazon have saved Ripper Street so perhaps fan power can work, let's go for it!

[identity profile] sasha-dragon.livejournal.com 2014-03-20 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's beyond bloody annoying, and I agree if it wasn't for GOT, I think I'd be off! I say we hound anyone we can think of!

[identity profile] milly-gal.livejournal.com 2014-03-20 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Supernatural being one of only three reasons I pay for Sky, I'm torn, cut my subscription, or keep it because I also use it for Castle and Bones *shakes fists* Dickheads, complete dickheads!

[identity profile] sasha-dragon.livejournal.com 2014-03-20 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean, I wonder if it's worth heading off to Talk Talk or Virgin. All we'd have to do is figure out if they have those channels.

[identity profile] milly-gal.livejournal.com 2014-03-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I say we bombard! Emails, letters tweets whatever we can.
